Welcome.
When I came to UMass in 1947, my intention was preparation for a career as a creator of museum-type dioramaspanoplies of illusion extending a reality I had little grasp of. This yearning broadened into many aspects of physical and emotional creative expression over the succeeding 60 years of designing and building more wide-ranging aesthetic sculptural forms and a committed curiosity and challenge to establishment ideology and its control of my very mind space.
In the 70s, life’s possibilities opened dramatically as the alternatives to the hegemonic imperative blossomed. I did a distracted job of raising 7 children, thereafter over the last 25 years living in community with 72 other adults (see 1st book, Edgehouse – Embracing the Energies of Change). My fourth house was the double envelope Torii House in 1980 that launched one career of solar low-tech design and building that has had me building myself over life 11 houses and some 30 others being constructed by clients. In the last five years, the quirky writing I have compulsively produced starting with long letters to my parents while I was a spy stationed and very at-home in Germany in 1952-54, became the more dominant form of expression. Four books give you only a hint of the hundreds of letters to the editor and opinion pieces of these years, mostly unacceptable to the controlled media. This site tries to pull together my very diverse enthusiasms in order to share them with you and I’m glad you got here.
